SUMMARY:Le Musée Henri Matisse du Cateau-Cambrésis
DESCRIPTION:Brigitte Thibaut \nMatisse naquit en 1869 dans cette petite ville textile du nord de la France. Il n ‘y vécut que quelques mois mais en 1852 lorsque le peintre\, âgé de 83 ans et déjà largement connu et admiré internationalement\, fut sollicité par la ville qui voulait lui rendre hommage\, ému par la requête\, il leur fit don de 82 oeuvres originales à la condition expresse qu’une salle lui soit dédiée. On s’empressa de satisfaire sa demande et c’est ainsi que débuta l’histoire du Musée Matisse du Cateau\, le seul créé par l’artiste en personne qui composa la collection et veilla personnellement à son installation. En 1982\, la municipalité souhaitant offrir un écrin plus adapté à ces oeuvres transféra le musée dans le Palais Fénelon\, joyau du XVIIIème siècle et la collection s’enrichit d’un grand nombre de pièces données par la famille Matisse.
